One of my superpowers as an ecosystem developer is sniffing out amazing hidden gems, people, and places working on the future of food all around the world.
Like a magnet, I’m easily able to pinpoint hotspots for agrifood innovation.
My most recent ecosystem visit was to Ibiza. I’ll be sending you my travel notes in the next few days.
The island is absolutely amazing — not just for the beauty and good times, but also for all the amazing entrepreneurial and regenerative projects unfolding. I can’t wait to share with you what I learned.
Wrapping up my trip in Ibiza, I am affirmed that many of the most interesting projects around the future of food are hyper local and focused on building up regional networks that understand the culture, history, politics, and terroir of the place they operate.
While there are ideas and best principles that can be scaled globally, operations ultimately needs to be adapted locally and are rooted in community.
This is a concept that came up in my podcast interview with C40 cities, which facilitates knowledge sharing between mayors of big cities to accelerate good ideas and food system transformation. This year they are nominated for the Food Planet Prize, which I will attend in Stockholm later this month!
More and more leaders I meet recognize that impact is not going global, but building something something amazing in their own backyard that connects up to a global patchwork of other amazing initiatives.
They deeply, deeply understand that everything is connected.
The actions they take locally impact the global biosphere and for this reason it’s important to connect the dots with what’s going on in the wider world.
I speak more about the leadership trends I see in our industry here:
